UK light-heavyweight Joshua Buatsi earned a win yet unimpressive beginning to his career under recent management with a decision win over Parker in the Manchester arena.

The Olympic medal winner's activity level likely gained him a split decision in a close 10-round bout at the Co-op Live Arena.

But Parker found success, connecting with powerful clean blows in a fight where the styles failed to mesh, with frequent clinching disrupting the contest.

The scoring judges had it 96-94 in favor to Buatsi, with the final judge a 95-95 draw.

"It wasn't my finest display but what defines champions? They prevail," the victor commented in the ringside as he was greeted with negative reactions from the audience.

The British fighter bounced back after his initial pro loss - an thrilling contest with Callum Smith in last winter - to claim a 20th career victory.

Several boxing experts thought the challenger, 31, should have been awarded the victory but the British boxer experienced the second defeat of his 28-bout professional journey.

The fighter's advancement has plateaued in the past few years through contract problems and long spells of inactivity.

Previously predicted as the rising talent of UK boxing, he now stands trying to fulfil that early promise - perhaps in what feels like a ultimate opportunity - under recent support.

He started carefully, with both competitors willing to be aggressive in a calculated opening few rounds.

The challenger, whose only previous defeat came at the lower weight class against John Ryder in 2022 after suffering a hand injury in the contest, was competing in only his second bout at light-heavyweight.

By the fight's midpoint, Parker had stayed in contention, making life awkward for the favorite, who operated with a solid defense to edge the cleaner stanzas.

The spectators' acceptance wore thin because of regular grabbing, with Parker falling to the floor various instances during grappling.

Parker finished the stronger, but many rounds were hard to judge. However, previous titleholder Carl Frampton - providing analysis for the broadcast network - had it strongly leaning for Parker, awarding Buatsi just a single round.

Buatsi progresses, but with the likes of power puncher David Benavidez, and Russian star Dmitry Bivol ruling the division, the road to world glory - judging by this showing - still seems difficult.

Hatton Homage Motivates All-Manchester Fight

In the supporting bout, Lyndon Arthur defeated Rea by divided decision in a excellent Manchester vs Manchester fight to capture the European light-heavyweight belt.

The venue became quiet for a profoundly moving tribute before the fight as ten bells tolled in remembrance of Manchester's own Ricky Hatton, who passed away aged 46 in last month.

It was the premier televised boxing event in the urban center since Hatton's passing. As the concluding sound faded, the quiet transitioned to a roar of "only one Hatton".

The action during the bout matched the feeling. Arthur was sent to the canvas by a powerful punch directly to the chin in the second round, getting up unsteadily to his position on the eight count.

But the Manchester United-red equipment of the fighter soon pressed ahead again. From the other corner, the opponent - in opposing blue - was injured quickly, noticeable damage developing under his eye as the fighters traded powerful shots.

Rea, twenty-seven, landed power punches but the champion, 34, fought fire with fire with stinging uppercuts as the action seldom decreased over 12 rounds.

The victor barely secured the verdict with official scores of even score, narrow lead and 115-112, but each competitor were determined and courageous, all the qualities their hero Hatton embodied.
